How do I know what the “right” foods are to cut out of my diet and/or to eat more of to lose weight for my body type? I feel like no matter what I do I cannot lose weight. Any insight would be appreciated!! –Shannon K.
Beyond sensible eating, how you know what to keep or eliminate for your body type is, frankly, by trial and error. One’s physical build is a combination of stature, body composition and distribution of fat and lean tissue. There aren’t specific diets for a “pear shape” versus an “apple shape,” much in the same way you can’t spot reduce by exercise. Not to mention that build may largely be determined by genetics.
For weight loss, the key is finding the right foods that keep you energized, satisfied and feeling refreshed while at a caloric deficit. To curb calories, everyone can stand to cut out added sugars, animal fats and alcohol. Take a detailed look at your intake to determine where your extra calories lie. Whether you keep corn but eliminate potatoes, or keep yogurt but cut out milk is up to you.
Your best diet will be one that you’re more likely to stick with in the long run. For example, if cereal is the only breakfast you’ll eat, then be sure to include it — just pick a good one. Work in your favorite food or you’ll feel deprived. Often people can continue to eat the same foods by reducing portions. Also, I never advise forcing yourself to eat something you don’t like. Find vegetables that you enjoy in whatever type of preparation.
If manipulating food isn’t achieving weight loss, turn to modifying your workouts. Don’t forget the power of exercise in burning calories and raising metabolism for losing weight! – Debbie J., MS, RD

I am 5’6″ tall 263lbs suffer from hypothyroidism I want to loose 80pouns but is hard because the condition i have, how can I make my metabolism to accelerate?, I would like to loose at least 30 pounds by February, I realy want to start but I do not know how my husband is been paying a gym for over a year and we never go.
I also have hypothyroid and I was able to loose about 75 lbs. I was 229 and am now 153. The best suggestion is to eat 5-6 small meals per day and make sure you are eating clean. I cut out fast food, processed foods etc. I started juicing and cooking from home as much as I could. Start by going to the classes at the gym. It’s important to be accountable to someone/something and setting a “date” to go there and don’t miss the class! They are fun and motivating and you will burn calories! Good luck!
That is exactly what you need to do! Go to the gym three times a week for at least an hour, do cardio for half hour and another half hour exercise your entire body….Eat half of what you presently eat, and you will lose more than 30 pounds by Feb next year…The commitment is for life, not just for three or four months. Think about it, it took a long time to gain that weigh, so it will take a while to lose it, everything is relative…For hypothyroidism disorder, go to an Endocrinologist; he can give you medications to stabilize your thyroid, and that will help you to lose even more than the desire weigh….
