Sizzling Summer Six-Pack Exercises

It’s finally that time of year! The sun is shining, the grass is green and the birds are singing their summer songs, but there’s just one problem…you still don’t have that summer six-pack you’ve been working so hard to get. Have no fear, LIVING HEALTHY is here to help you this summer.

Medicine Ball Toss with a Partner 

Grab a friend and perform this exercise to incorporate additional resistance into your abs workout! Start with a lightweight medicine ball and work your way up in weight as you progress and gain core strength.

Do 3 sets of 8-20 reps. The amount of reps you perform will depend on your personal fitness level. The time you spend assisting your partner should serve as a sufficient amount of time for your body to recover for your next set.

Tip: Make sure that you and your partner lightly toss the ball. Also, try to establish a rhythm while you control your momentum.

Tip: Hold the ball a few inches away from your chest and keep it there throughout the entire motion of the sit-up or crunch portion of the movement.

Tip: The medicine ball may cause you to fall backwards faster than expected. Maintain a controlled pace as you catch the ball, go down and sit up. This will help challenge your core muscles even more and prevent injuries.

Reach for the Stars

Start off in sit-up position with your feet flat on the ground and your knees bent. While this exercise may look similar to a traditional sit-up, unlike a sit-up, it incorporates explosive movements which will help you reach your six-pack goal.

Do 3 sets of 8 to 20 reps., with 90 seconds of rest in between sets for your body to recover. The amount of reps you perform will depend on your personal fitness level.

Tip: Reach your hands up as high as you can in one explosive movement and slowly lower your torso back down to the ground.

Tip: Keep your feet flat on the ground and your legs as stationary as possible.

Tip: Emphasize reaching up and minimize how far forward you go.

Do 3 sets of 8 to 20 reps., with 90 seconds of rest in between sets for your body to recover. The amount of reps you perform will depend on your personal fitness level.

Tip: Maintain your balance and make sure to use your stomach muscles during the entire exercise.

Tip: Don’t let your arms or feet touch the ground until you finish the exercise in order to work your core the entire time.

Do 3 sets of 8 to 20 reps., with 90 seconds of rest in between sets for your body to recover. The amount of reps you perform will depend on your personal fitness level.

Tip: You really need to explode and pull in with your abs during this exercise. Don’t worry if you cannot bring your hands in toward your feet at first; this exercise may take some practice and development over time.

Reverse Stability Ball Crunch

Do 3 sets of 8 to 20 reps., with 90 seconds of rest in between sets for your body to recover. The amount of reps. you perform will depend on your personal fitness level.

Tip: Do the first few reps slowly to help find your balance and rhythm then slowly increase the pace as you become more comfortable.

Tip: Every time you “crunch”, hold that position for 1 second and tighten your abs.
