Hi! I want to do a detox for a couple of days, but I am not sure which one is the best. I tried to do the pressed juices for 5 days and I felt horrible. I did 2 days just fruits and veggies, and did not have any energy for anything. What would you recommend? – Sid

Well, it sounds like you have your answer. Eating only limited calories (semi-fasting) without protein or fat left you listless or terrible. If your purpose in ‘detoxing’ is to feel better, then you’ll have to modify the approach to obtain enough energy and still allow your system to refresh. Since you’re only talking about two days, here’s what I’d recommend:

Drink warm water with lemon upon rising.

In the morning eat egg whites and blend a fresh green vegetable smoothie.

Drink green tea or water throughout the day.

For lunch make a fresh soup with chicken and beans or a salad with nuts, seeds and quinoa; either with olive oil and tons of vegetables.

Have baked fish and steamed green vegetables for dinner.

If your tank is really on empty between meals, have a glass of plant-based ‘milk’ or munch on some berries.

Making everything from scratch (except the milk alternative) follows the no processed foods ‘rule’, allowing you to ingest only the freshest foods with their maximum nutritional value. The above are also in keeping with no gluten, no dairy, no refined flour, no alcohol and no added sugar – the basics of a clean diet. Yes — nuts, seeds, avocado and animal proteins are more complex to digest than pressed juices but your gut health won’t be compromised. When you resume dairy, just be sure to include probiotics like active culture yogurt to keep intestinal flora healthy.
