What is your thought on using CLA? I take it twice a day with a meal. Weight maintains steady. Looking to burn more stubborn fat.- Steve F.
Great question! Supplemental CLA is a good way to get more Conjugated Linoleic Acid without eating more artery-clogging sources such as beef and dairy. But supplementation is of modest benefit for body composition.
Studies* show promise in its use for reducing body fat when a significant dose (3.2 grams per day) of high-grade CLA is used over the course of 6 months. Sounds good, right? Well, the typical loss was less than 5 pounds — very minimal at best — averaging 0.2 pound per week. Your weight may continue to remain steady on CLA. My advice is to put your efforts toward improving your diet and exercise habits if you want to burn off stubborn fat!
Supplemental CLA may not be suitable for individuals with diabetes, insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome. – Debbie J., MS, RD
