ask our dietitian your question todayconstantly hungry, then try this

I can’t seem to stay full. I come in from a workout and I am ravenous, and my body craves carbs. I try to eat smaller portions and it seems like it is not enough, so I try to fill up on veggies. Also, I try to drink plenty of water because I have read that often times when one is hungry it’s probably more dehydration than hunger. What else can I do? – Beverly M.

Your experience is quite common. Feeling hungry continually, even after you have eaten, is a sign that your body thinks it is deprived of energy. When energy stores called glycogen are depleted during intense or extended workouts, it can feel like a more than normal quantity of food is needed to make up for it. Glycogen is only made from carbohydrates. Keeping your blood sugar stable throughout the day by eating regularly, as well as eating a small pre-workout snack with carbs might help. – Debbie J., MS, RD
