I am a member of LA fitness. The location I frequent, Sugar land Texas Hwy 59 does not have a dietitian that I am aware of. I work out, cardio mostly, as much as 20 miles on elliptical machines (knees don’t allow me to run). I have started a weight training program with a personal trainer. My trainer works me hard and I have put muscle on. I have dropped from 34.4 to 31.5% body fat. I am 330 lbs. but have actually gained 3 pounds! I try to eat a balanced diet, roast chicken Fuji apples water (lots of water) and I try to keep to a 2000 calorie diet. I am also diabetic with extremely well controlled cholesterol and triglycerides (both in mid 130s). I would like to begin losing weight again. Would a diet plan help me? -Rusty

You’re right, we don’t have live dietitians at the clubs, so I hope you like the service of our Q&A here on LIVING HEALTHY.  It sounds like you’re definitely headed to a leaner body with the exercise and eating program described.

A diet plan can help you stick to your nutritional goals.  The best part is that you can make your own effective diet plan since you already count calories:

1) Log what you eat & drink for 7 days, also noting the fat, carbohydrate, and protein grams that you consume.

2) Try to get as close as you can to making sure you eat  55 grams Fat, 250 grams Carbs and 125 grams Protein [25%, 50%, 25% caloric ratio, respectively].

3) Create slight substitutions with different foods each day for variety.

Voila! You have just created your own custom plan to follow each week. – Debbie J., MS, RD
