I’m turning 50—which as you know is the new 30!—and I have a crazy but fulfilling life and schedule. Also, I just adopted our first child, a beautiful 9-month-old girl, and I need to get in shape! I am 5’5″ and I have gained 25 pounds since the adoption due to lack of sleep, carbs and no exercise. I feel like my body holds onto weight! What are some healthy tips for dealing with a new child, a career and a crazy schedule? – Patricia
Congratulations, and there is no time like the present to get back into shape! A good jogging stroller and our amazing Kids Klub at LA Fitness should help with your exercise routine. With a crazy schedule it’s imperative to have your healthy food options prepared in advance and planned-out. Try individual portions of grab-n-go foods like cheese and crackers, sliced apples and peanut butter, yogurt, hummus and pretzels, and hard-cooked eggs. These are all things your child can eat as a toddler, too! – Debbie M., MS, RD

I workout and enjoy LA Fitness with my family. However, in working out I have discover according to my fitness app my protein intake tends to be low. Is there any thing beyond vegan protein powder I should do?
If you are vegan, then including beans, nuts or seeds at each meal is recommended to increase protein. See my article on the subject in our healthy living blog http://bloglafitness.azurewebsites.net/2013/04/12/is-protein-an-issue-for-vegans/
Could not agree more, a jogging stroller is great for getting fit. I always make sure to have some fresh cut carrot sticks in some water in the fridge I can grab on the way out.
